In 2018, I was hired by the New Market Civic Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to the commercial revitalization of its historic downtown, to create a new brand for the municipality that would serve both tourism and economic development efforts. The assignment required public input to learn perceptions regarding the personality and character of the town, as well as additional questioning regarding the types of businesses they hoped would serve the town. This input was generated from an in-person focus group of both new and long-time residents, as well as an online survey of 300+ residents living in a local development. The survey resulted in important economic development data and contributed to the creative approach developed for the branding.
